Old Testament
1/7/08–Exploring Essential texts in Ezekiel
Let’s summarize the texts below by giving each one a working title:
1:3-5a, 15-22, 26-28–The Call of Ezekiel. A great cloud with fire and a gleaming amber in the middle. In the middle of the amber it looked like four living creatures that maybe were humans. Four faces with four wings. Legs were straight, and the soles of their feet…(what a crazy description. Let’s see you artwork and connections so we can bring this scene to life). |
2:1-7–Ezekiel is Commissioned. God warns Ezekiel about the rebellious house of Israel. |
11:17-20–Promise of restoration to the exiled. 1) Another promise of the land 2) A unified heart and spirit 3) Follow the ordinances |
18:1-4, 25-32–Being accountable |
33:1-11–Ezekiel’s role among the people is clarified |
31:1-6, 10-14–Comparison between Assyria and Egypt |
34:1-10–The shepherds of Israel (the abusive shepherds). Israel’s kings are the abusive shepherds. |
34:11-17–God is the good shepherd. God will seek the lost, and bring back the strayed. |
36:24-28–God makes good on promises |
37:1-14–The valley of dry bones |
39:21-29–How Israel will be restored. Eschatology. The End Times. |

Noah and the Flood–How many Days?
OT students:
For a further explanation of the chronology of the Flood Narrative, check out: http://www.bibleinsight.com/floodp1.html
You may be saddened that even the author’s analysis does not clear up all of our questions about 40 days vs. 150 days, but sometimes Scripture does not answer all of our questions.
If you can make sense of these dates or if you think the dates and their ambiguity is important, please share your thoughts by posting a comment.

In a comment to this page, list three other examples from the Old Testament where we read and hear the phrase “Here I am.” Make sure to list the Book, Chapter, and verse(s). List the speaker in each instance and to whom he/she is speaking. Try to find examples that we have not studied thus far in class.

Mr. Linney,
To get my answer I read the 3 page handout you gave us. I found the answer in the 2nd sentence of page 7. It says,”This coherent narrative account, albeit pieced together in somewhat disjointed fashion from older materials, makes the claim that the very goal of God’s creation, from an Israelite perspective, is the settlement of Israel in the land of promise. This is where I got my information from.

Mr.Linney I found the answer by reading the three page handout and the answer is on the first page second sentence through the fourth sentence. It reads:This conherent narrative account, albiet pieced together in somewhat disjointed fashion from older materials, makes the claim that the very goal of Gods creation, from an Israelite perspecive, is the settlement of Israel the land of promise. Thus the narrative moves from “earth”(erets) to “land” (erets), reflecting both the intentionality of God the creator and the destiny of Isreal as Gods people of promise. This entire narrative account is now shaped by Priestly traditionist who assert (a) that the commands of Sinai occupy the crucial pivitol center of the narritive, and (b) that the commands of Sinai are decisively titled toward holiness and purity:for it is profances and impurity, in Priestly perspective, that have caused the displacement and deporation of Israel in sixth century. That is how I founded my answer.
