North Carolina Population by County
Question: If you look at the website: http://demog.state.nc.us/ you will find that Bertie, Burke, Cleveland, Columbus, Edgecombe, Halifax, Hyde, Jones, Lenoir, Martin, Northampton, Rockingham, and Warren counties all decreased in population from the year 2000 to 2006.
That is only 12 counties that decreased in population out of a total of how many counties in the state?
Why do you think that populations in these 12 counties decreased?
Your homework is to choose a county from the 12 listed and find evidence that supports why a particular county decreased in population from 2000 to 2006.

I think the population decreased because of poverty.
My evidence is that; In 1995 Hyde was a county with 1,377 people in poverty and a poverty rate of 25.7 % of the population. I think people would move out of Hyde county because a quarter of the population are in poverty, so they would move to find a better paying job.
213 cities in North Carolina have more then 2500 people.
550 cities listed, 51 people live in spencer mountain, 16 cities have a population under 100 people , durham ranks as #4 in the largest cities in North Carolina.
